Azerbaijan pays special attention to passengers arriving from countries at risk of monkeypox - State Customs Committee

"Special attention is paid to passengers arriving from countries at risk of monkeypox," State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan said as a response to APA's inquiry.

It was noted that the State Customs Committee (SCC) is implementing a number of measures to prevent the spread of the monkeypox virus across the country's borders at airports and other state border checkpoints.

"Based on data from the World Health Organization, countries at risk of monkeypox have been identified and special attention is paid to passengers arriving from those countries.

The Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee regularly conducts educational training on particularly dangerous infections for customs officers at state border checkpoints, and recently, special attention has been paid to the clinical symptoms, routes of infection and prevention of monkeypox.

Existing technical capabilities are being used to detect passengers with high temperatures. The level of preparedness has been increased in connection with the initial medical examination of suspected cases and the conduct of an epidemiological survey.

If suspected cases of the disease are detected, the next steps will be taken in accordance with the "Instructions on anti-epidemic measures against particularly dangerous infections at customs and border checkpoints of the Republic of Azerbaijan" jointly with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) and relevant institutions," the statement emphasized.
