The medalists of the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games have begun to return the medals they won, APA reports.
More than 100 medals have already been sent to the Organizing Committee of the tournament. This was due to the loss of quality of the medals.
The problem has not bypassed Azerbaijani athletes.
Thus, Gashim Magomedov, the silver medalist in taekwondo at the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games, also faced the same problem.
He said that his medal had lost its quality: "I was very sensitive to it from the moment I won it. During this time, I kept it in a special bag. I kept it in the bag for about two months. I looked at it occasionally, sometimes I admired it. A few days ago, when I came to Azerbaijan for a training camp, I thought I would take it with me as a backup. I decided to take it with me in case it was needed at some event of the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the Taekwondo Federation, and when I took it out of the bag, I saw that it was a little damaged. I don't understand why? I have always been sensitive to my medal. But like many athletes, I also encountered poor quality."
We contacted the National Olympic Committee regarding the issue.
The organization informed our website that an appeal will be made to the International Olympic Committee regarding the incident.
