Azerbaijan adopted new state standards for cotton industry

The Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization (AZSTAND), subordinate to the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Supervision, has adopted the state standards AZS 965:2024 (O’z DSt 3295:2018) “Cotton lint. Standard test methods for determining the physical and mechanical properties of cotton lint using classification devices”, AZS 969:2025 (O’z DSt 632:2021) “Cotton lint. Methods for determining defects and impurities” and AZS 154:2025 “Cotton lint. Methods for determining maturity,” AZSTAND told APA-Economics.

These state standards define methods for determining color, waste, micronaire index, upper average length, length uniformity index, specific breaking load, mass fraction of defects and impurities in cotton analyzers using cotton gin classification devices, as well as neps (knots) in standardized instruments for testing cotton (SITC), including the maturity coefficient in polarized light and by the air permeability of the sample.

The aforementioned standards were discussed in the Technical Committee for Standardization of the "Cotton Industry" (AZSTAND/TK 38), established on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of Plant Protection and Technical Plants of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and were adopted by the Institute and included in the State Standardization Fund of Normative Documents.
